Tim Buckley

Tim Buckley

Another Cult singer from 60's who I discovered through listening to his son Jeff Buckley. Tim must be considered as one of the best vocalists ever with his powerful 8 octave range (which I'm told is quite good). Like his son Jeff, Tim died while he was young in mysterious circumstances, of a heroin overdose.

As his career progressed Tim Buckley moved further and further into Jazz territory (which I'm not a huge fan of) so my collection consists mainly of his earlier albums which I think are more accessible. Lyrically the music here is full of fragility and is truly beatiful and combined with Tims voice makes for an amazing experience. While listening to this music I often shed a tear which my moustache soaks up very nicely.

I recommend the following three albums:

Tim Buckley

This self titled albus gave a glimpse of what was to come. It is a good solid album but the other two mentioned here are probably better. Good photo of the boy tim. Buy Tim Buckley at Amazon.co.uk

Goodbye and Hello

A Classic, his greatest album with the songs "once I was" and "phantaorgasm" being the best. Good tunes with a powerful wailing voice. Spectacular. And without a moustache! Buy Goodbye and Hello at Amazon.co.uk

Happy Sad

Tim starts to use his voice as more of an instrument resulting in this more experimental album. As the title suggests, contains some happy songs with "Buzzin Fly" being a happy tuneful number that you can whistle to while you are on the way to the barbers to get that moustache trimmed. While "song for you" is more appropriate for when the barber accidently shaves the 'tache off and, as a direct consequence, your bird chucks you. Bitch. Buy Happy Sad at Amazon.co.uk
